Ultimate Rejuvenation
What’s Really Involved When You Get a Facelift

If you’ve arrived at the moment in life when you’re considering a facelift, your primary consideration should be finding a board-certified plastic surgeon with an artistic eye and long experience.

All doctors undergo roughly the same surgical training. But the results they’re able to produce on real-life patients vary widely, and depend entirely on their aesthetic sense and acquired skills.

A Facelift Is Life-Changing
A facelift is probably the most important, life-changing cosmetic procedure you’ll undergo. I urge you to study every surgeon’s before-and-after photos closely before volunteering for so much as a consultation. Mistakes in the operating room can be irreversible.

Facelifts Are Multiple Procedures
“Facelift” is actually a misnomer. A number of procedures can be involved in rejuvenating the aging face.

A necklift is often involved; this can help correct “turkey neck.” The facelift itself can correct jowls and sagging cheeks. I’ll often recommend a browlift and eyelid surgery as well. There’s no point rejuvenating your lower face if you’ll be left with droopy eyelids and harsh frown lines.

In addition, facial implants or, more commonly, facial injectables (also called dermal fillers), can turn ordinary faces into head-turning ones, and fat transfers (or injectables) can restore volume to bring back youthful contours.

It’s Up to You
How extensive your facelift surgery becomes is up to you. During your consultation, I’ll give you the benefit of my wide experience and artistic eye. You’ll tell me if you want “short-scar” or “minimally invasive” techniques (my usual goal is to make only the incisions absolutely necessary to get the job done right), and which features bother you.

I Want to Give You Long-Lasting Results
I generally only address areas or features that you find troublesome, unless I feel you wouldn’t be satisfied with the results if we didn’t address a particular area or feature. My goal isn’t to talk you into doing more than you should. My recommendations will always be about providing you with the finest, most long-lasting results possible.

Your Privacy and Comfort
Our fully accredited operating facility is designed to give you complete privacy during the entire process of rejuvenating your face. We understand that this is something you’re doing for yourself. The rest of the community doesn’t need to be involved. We respect that, which is why you’ll be given total privacy and every comfort.

The Details
Assuming a normal, uncomplicated recovery, here’s an overview of what to expect:

Length of surgery:

Several hours
Anesthesia: Local with sedation, or general
In/Out: Usually outpatient. An overnight stay is possible.
Recovery: Back to work in about 1-2 weeks
Strenuous activity: Avoid for 2 weeks or more
Bruising: 2 to 3 weeks
Side Effects: Temporary bruising; swelling; numbness and tenderness; tight-feeling, dry skin; facial nerve injury (all tend to resolve within weeks or months)
Must limit exposure to sun for several months.

My Goal Is to Give You a Refreshed, Natural Look
The ideal facelift doesn’t draw attention to itself. It just leaves you with a brighter, fresher face, more clarity around the eyes, forehead and mouth, and possibly a more optimistic expression.

Certainly it should not leave you with a pulled look along the cheekbone. That “Nike swoop” is something I try to avoid as I feel that it has no place in today’s operating rooms. For older patients, unfortunately, this is sometimes pre-existing (from a previous facelift) or unavoidable (due to excessive skin laxity or redundancy).

An “Artist” at Work
Even though I get accused of it sometimes, I’ve never claimed to be an “artist.” However, when you entrust your facelift to me, you can be sure every contour of your new face will be planned with my artistic eye to within a micro-millimeter, and executed accordingly.

Seeing is believing. Come in for a consultation and look at the before-and-after photos of some of my happy patients. Few people fail to book surgery after they’ve seen the natural, refreshed results that come with a great facelift!
